Super Angry [8o|] knockout changing to overprint

We are currently using Quark 6.5 as a pagination software and have had problems when some PDF's are place in quark, the white knock out is changing to overprint.  Unfortunately it looks fine in the exported PDF (with the overprint mode checked in Acrobat), but the text or box disappears on the RIP.  It doesn't happen all of the time and I have found that if I take the original PDF and make it an EPS and run it though our Distiller and then place in Quark, it works fine.  I was wondering if anyone knew why this was happening and if this problem exists in the newer versions.

    Thanks in advance

Well, in general, particularly though with XPress 6.x, it's better to import an EPS file. PDF handling by XPress 6.x is pretty flaky at best. We save out EPS files from Acrobat (as you have tried) and just import the EPS file.
