Growing Frustration! Can't get file path of missing images?

Are you kidding me? In Xpress 8 you can no longer get the "file path" or "name" of the placed image if the usage status is "missing"? What kind of thought process went into that decision? If anyone knows a work around for this apparent bug, I would love to hear it.

I just did the following test in 8.01: created a file, imported images, closed file; deleted images, reopened file --- in the Utilities > Usage window, status is now "missing", but the file path is still displayed, as it should be.

Is that bug limited to one of your files, or do you encounter it with every of your documents?

EDIT: answered this without noticing this thread is about Apple Script.

Hi Manuel, note this is the AppleScript forum, so the question will refer to using the scripting interface.

I can confirm I see this problem. In XPress 6.5, getting "file path of image 1 of picture box x" would return the saved file path you see in Usage, even if the image were missing. In QuarkXPress 8.01, it returns null. That is indeed a huge problem for anyone trying to script checks of picture links and provide automated replacement.

The only thing I can see that could be causing this problem is the change to the way Xpress returned the results of the file path in predecessors to QXP 8.x.  Back in QXP 7, it would return the file path at a string, in QXP 8, I noticed it now wants to return it as an alias. I suppose this is the main issue? The fact that it can't resolves the alias, it feels it needs to return null? I agree with you JRS, this is a huge problem, even if you don't want to do automated replacement, but you want to get a list of images or anything...you can't rely on it. BIG PROBLEM!

I forwarded the issue to our applescript specialist, who is already aware of the issue. If you are concerned by this, please get in touch with our tech support, so you will be notified as soon as we have a solution.
