Hi all,
I do encounter strage things with a 100 pages magazine-file mostly based on the textfont "GaramondPremierPro (OpenType)".
Each time I open the file, some textboxes reflow differently, but only those with that font; whereas those with e.g. "MyriadPro" do stay as intended. All text is in German ("Deutsch Neue Rechtschreibung").
Text, which reflows uses style sheets and is based on masterlines (page). If I klick in the middle of the low boxend of a textbox, the text reflows almonst in every texbox on the doublesided-layout currently visible. So even in textboxes not linked to that one I am klicking. This "feature" is also performed, when klicking (I did that first by mistake) "Apple M" via item tool and then "Cancel" without having done anything. Text reflows immediately after that. After correcting all strange textreflows, saving under new file name and reopening the file, same textboxes (e.g. linked over threee pages) are reflowing again. Pressing "Apple M" then "cancel" on one of the linked boxes which are reflowing again - and then they fit in the boxes.
When I open this file on diferent Macs (intel and PowerPC) and OS-Versions and even with different Suitcase "Fusion" and "Fusion 2" the file behaves as mentioned.
So I copy the text of one page (first into textedit, then save and reopen textedit and copy from that) to a new Xpress 8.02 file and appending the old layout's style sheets from a different master-document and then going for three layouts in this new project and using "GaramondPremierPro (OT)" in one, "AdobeGaramondPro (OT)" in the 2nd and the "good old" "Adobe Garamond (PS)" in the third layout for the same text. The first reflows as mentioned, the second only reflows in limited parts (puh that is already somthing) and the third one stays as it should be, no change at all. So is it to do with OpenType? But why and what? Does XPress "circle" around some settings?
Settings for the reflowing text are "use Open Type kerning", in the style sheets "Open Type Standard Ligatures" are on (I already tested this with "off", same "feature"), a "scale horizontal track amount" is set to "-2". H & J are set to a justification method with "Char -1%, 0% and 2%". No flush zone and unlimited hyphens (being german with long german words). At last "hanging characters" are set leading and trailing (but this isn't either the problem, because problem occurs even with turned off).
So, either this a new feature, a problem with that type of font (a "large" OT-Pro one) or ...
Any hint or workaround?
Thanks thomas
