Quark 7.31 Export to PDF exports one image from a document and nothing else

I've just inherited some marketing duties which include creating & revising Quark files. I'm new to Quark, but have experience from years back in PageMaker, etc.

I am experiencing inconsistencies with producing PDF's in Quark. I see there a 3 different ways to produce PDF's, but no single way works reliably every time.

Here is a specific issue I am experiencing right now:

    Mac OS X 10.5.6 QuarkXpress 7.31

I have a 2 page file that contains many elements including text boxes & picture boxes. I can view all fine. When I use the "Export to PDF" the resulting file only shows one line art image on the first page and absolutely nothing else. I have selected to "Create Postscript File for Later distilling" in the PDF preferences, but I have also tried "direct to PDF" with the same result.

In this case the only way I can get a PDF for this file that includes all elements is to use the Mac OS X print driver - "saves as PDF" & Print. However the line art is not as crisp using this method. I have had other instances on other documents where the resulting PDF is completely blank. (help.........)

I just now found your post here. Might I suggest instead of using Mac OSX to make your PDF, try clicking on PDF to Postscript. You'll get a postscript file that you can then distill. If you have Acrobat Distiller you can use that to distill your PDF. If not, open the PS file in Preview. Preview will make a PDF for you that you can then save.

As for fixing what's wrong with Export to PDF/PS, I'm not really sure. I usually print to postscript and then distill. I might suggest an update to 7.5 though. That may help. The update is free, but be warned the download is over 320mb.

Thank you for your reply, Eric.

In this particular case I have tried both as a PS document  and then distill, and well as exporting direct to PDF - with the same result.

Upgrading to 7.5 might help - though I'm having trouble finding the list of known bug fixes that that particular upgrade addresses.

I also found a solution "AE0130" that involves when "permissions applied to the profiles folder located in the Required Components folder are restricted". Has anyone run into this particular problem?
