    pdf question

Am new to converting my Quark docs to pdf, and have some questions rolling around my head before attacking this procedure. Using Mac 10.5.6 and Quark 8. Have developed this document on separate Quark pages, but want to have all of these in one pdf document. 1. How is this done? 2. What settings do I want t? This will be posted on the web for downloading. 3. If I need to make changes in this document on one page after it has been put on the web, do I need to resubmit the whole pdf or can I just submit the corrected page? Thanks.

    Re: pdf question

To PDF a complete quark document into one PDF file, you essentially do nothing. There is a form field at the bottom of your PDF dialogue box asking what pages you would like to PDF... just leave this field blank and all pages will end up in one PDF document. Under that same field, there is a drop down menu where you can select different styles of PDF, just select the type of PDF you want. As for downloading from the Web, the answer is yes, you will need to upload a new whole PDF.

    Re: pdf question

Sorry if I mislead...this is a 12 page document done in 7 "projects" if that's the correct term. Was originally done in 4.11, and just converted to 8, but all 12 pages are not one document. Can I create a pdf file using disparate pages, or now that they are created, should I attempt to put them all in one doc? ALSO: Experimented with one page, and received below info in log: %%[Distiller generating /Users/penelopecox/Desktop/pg 2-Intro _pg 2-Intro .pdf]%% %%[ DIAGNOSTIC: %%ViewingOrientation: 1 0 0 1, rotation = 0 ]%% %%[ WARNING: Ignoring unknown distiller param: MaxSubsetPct ]%% %%[ DIAG: bad FontBBox (typically a bug in Adobe 4.2 driver) ]%% %%[ bad FontBBox=[0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000] ]%% %%[ DIAG: bad FontBBox (typically a bug in Adobe 4.2 driver) ]%% %%[ bad FontBBox=[0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000] ]%% %%[Distiller operation succeeded.]%% Any interpretation would be appreciated!

    Re: pdf question

As your files come from an older version of Quark, I recommend that you "assemble" them in QuarkXPress 8 into a single Quark document using the thumbnail drag method (this will at the same time optimize the code of your files). The method is explained in a nice video tutorial on this page, the title is "Merging & Appending Projects".

    Re: pdf question

Thank You! Great help and resource. That being said, some thumbnails would transfer, other's would not. Somehow I think it must be Layout which was covered, albet briefly, however not in this context. For those that would transfer, there was a space at the bottom of the receiving document page to "receive" the thumbnails, on those that would not transfer, there was no space. If it is the layout, what specifically do I need to change?

    Re: pdf question

Check the sizes of your documents. They have to match exactly. QXP won't let you thumbnail drag if the receiving file is either larger or smaller than the document you are dragging from.

    Re: pdf question

Any suggestions as to how to check the size of my documents? Sorry it this is a known quantity. Quark 8 is new to me, having used 4.11 previously, and in which these documents were originally written.

    Re: pdf question

In QXP6 and 7 you go to Layout>Layout Properties. That will show you the physical size of the document. Unless they have changed that in QXP8 it's probably in the same place.

    Re: pdf question

it is...and they are. Documents are the same size and all other information is the same on both documents....the ones accepted and the ones denied. Is there something esoteric I should be looking for?

    Re: pdf question

An update on this issue just in case someone else has this question....I realized that the project I was attempting to bring into was one that I had originally written in 4.11. Thus I opened a new project in 8 ,and it worked perfectly. Problem solved!
