Distiller settings in Quark 7.3 - corrupted preferences for JAWS distiller?

    Greetings all,

I have an issue with my PDF pre-sets in Quark 7.3. I have noticed lately that in the "Press" settings my compression and resolution setting have changed, without me actively changing them. I speaking of the pre-set values, not ones that I'm inputting for a specific job.

My guess is that a customer's Quark file has somehow corrupted my settings.

I discarded my Distiller prefs, but the problem remains.

My question is how do I restore my Quark's PDF distiller settings to the default ones?

There may be a Distiller.prf in the Quark preferences folder (there is on my machine, anyway). If you find it, with Quark off, move the prf file to the desktop, and restart Quark. It should make a new prf file, with the default settings. If it works, throw the old prf file away, since it's not needed anymore. You don't mention your OS, my suggestions are based on OS X.

     Hello elpy zee,

Thanks for your response. It's been awhile since I've posted on here and I guess I forgot to give out that important information such as version and OS, etc.

I'm on Quark Xpress 7.31, using Mac OSX 10.4.11 2GB RAM Dual G4 Processors.

I have tried the discarding the Distiller.prf file, but it did not resolve the situation.

     Any other ideas?

     Thanks

I think the file you are after is Quark Preferences folder/Output Styles/Style4.OutputStyle.xml

but I don't think it would re-create unless you delete all the preferences. Is there any chance you have a duplicate of this file elsewhere? such as Library instead of in the quark application folder or on another Mac?

     Hello Glenn,

Thanks for your response. I have tried taking a duplicate Distiller.prf file from one of my coworkers machines, but it didn't work.

I will try your suggestion and see if there's any difference.

This really isn't a huge problem, just an inconvenience mostly. I was hoping there was some easy fix (like deleting the prefs file) and that would fix it, but it's not turning out that way.

I do like the fact that in Quark, when you set up a file to distill a PDF the way you want it, it retains that information, as opposed to other programs, where if you do custom settings, they're lost when you distill the next file.

    Thanks again, Glenn.
