Opening an FLV video in a new window

Hi I have created a simple multi-window player in QID7 for clients to view video clips (this is for internal review/sign off purposes, so it's very basic). What I'd like is to have the video open into a new, larger window when they click on the video object. I'm new to Flash, is there a simple way of doing this? Play, pause and cue/review buttons would be great but they're by no means essential. I've tried creating links to windows but without any success so far thanks Stephen

    Hi, Stephen,

can you have the FLV available in two resolutions/sizes?

    Thanks
    Matthias

Hi Matthias At the moment I have a full-screen HDV (1920x1080) version and one set to web medium widescreen (364x200) in Adobe's Flash encoder. However it would be sufficient for the 364x200 to 'pop up' in a separate window as the Quark page I've created has several thumbnail sized video windows which are actually smaller than that. The idea is for the SWF to act as an interactive index to the video clips rather than as the player itself. thanks Stephen

    Sounds good.

So where exactly are you stuck, where can I jump in to help?

    Thanks

If I set the object on the index page to open a new window, when you click on that nothing happens (even though I have set the second clip up as an object on another page). If I make the object on the index page the video itself it plays fine. But of course all the videos can play at once if the client clicks on them! I will make a client-name-free version available on my server later and post the URL here.

    Hi, Stephen,

not sure I completely understand how your site offers this option, so seeing your test site will help. Two things:

    1. Remember that a video doesn't just start playing by itself. So use an action to play it. You could have the window trigger it by defining a Play Video action for the Window Open event.
    2. Make the window modal and force yourusers to close it. This way onyl one video plays if I understand you right that you want it that way. Of create a script (which is a series of actions) that closes the currently open windows before playing the new window.

    Best
