Still no resolution! Per the advice here, I upgraded to 7.5
but the text still shifts when I paste a page into another document.
Apparently, our printers told me that they’ve had this
problem with other clients that use Quark 7. I never had this problem
with v 6 or any version below it (our printers can now only accepts Quark 7 + ... crazy, right?).
This problem has effectively doubled my workload at the end of every month, at
exactly the worst time (re: when the magazine is due): Pre-press now has to
send me approx 3 versions of proofs because the text keeps shifting whenever
they get my docs ready for plate. In the meantime, looks like I’m going to see
if I can rip EPS files for the pre-press so their machines won’t mess up my
work, but that opens another can of potential printing worms.
I should mention here that Quark has been absolutely no help
in resolving this matter. Calling the 1-800 Quark number I was told I would be
charged a fee to speak with a member of tech support. I then sent an email to
their online support team, and I didn’t receive a response. It’s no wonder
everyone has moved to InDesign; Quark is now selling an inferior product and charging money to the few customers they have left when
the software inevitably causes problems. Are they honestly surprised that
people are no longer using this product?
I’m a serious Quark user of 10+ years who has never
considered moving to InDesign before, but looks like that’s all going to
change. My printer is all but begging me to make the transition and now I have
no reason not to. As editor of a national magazine that focuses on public
relations, communications, etc., I’m also going to make this incident the focus
of a monthly column discussing the dos and don’ts of customer relations. The guilty
parties will NOT be left anonymous.
Thanks to everyone on this forum for your help and comments.
I appreciate the feedback and desires to help me resolve this issue. Good luck!
