I'm trying to support a client still using QuarkXPress 4.1 but since the software was made when I was 12 and know next to nothing about it, I'm hoping the community can come to my aid.  

Here is the problem:

When they try and open a file off a zip disk (or off the desktop).  They recieve this error

Error:
QuarkXPress 4.1 could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators. 

QuarkXPress4.1 is installed and runs.  They are able to open other files, but they have a few that create this error consistently.  There is nothing incommon with these files that I can tell, it seems completely random.

 Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appricated.

Patrick. Try having them copy the file to the hard drive first (if still on the zip disk). Then have them add the following three letter extension: .qxd (for QuarkXPress Document) Then have them try to open the file. If it still won't open, then have the client go in to XPress and open the file by going to File>Open, navigating to the file and then clicking on it. This applies both to PC and Mac. If your client is Mac and they put this file on a PC formatted Zip disk at some point it would have stripped out the file association (because Macs store files differently). Adding the extension will restore the file assocation. Hope that helps.

 I have tried moving the file to the desktop with no luck.  It is on a Mac and when i go into info for the file it is still recognized as a .qxd so I'm assuming it isn't that but I will try it next time I'm on site.  I have tried opeing it from inside xpress and it cant see the file but again according to the info it is a .qxd.  From what the client told me it has been a in Mac format the whole way through.
