RAL colors to Pantone and CMYK

Does anybody have a clue where I can find the German RAL color system for usage in QuarkXPress 8?

    And to the set-up?

     Hi!

Here is a useful PDF you could use. Based on it, I could create a Quark color library like the common Pantone one, but I don't have free time enough to make it.

I'll add it in my to do list for my free hours.

    HTH!

EDIT: The word "Here", here above, is clickable.

Thank you for the reply Mr Schwartz,

For PC users there seems to be a converter available by Mark Schonewille "Color Converter.exe" (version 1.4)

Altough this is not for embedding in QXP, the indications it gives to CMYK and other seem to be quit usable.

To see what Quark color libraries look like, you'd open 2 different files from the Colors folder: PANTONE(R) solid coated.qcl and Solid Coated UI Spec.cui Then based on that you could make your own. Handle with care ;-)

    Okay...

And how do I do that? Quark does not open these files, nor do Photoshop, Illustrator or any Windows applications for that matter.

Well, once you've saved the 2 new files with the proper color names and correct separations, just drop them in the Color folder. After reopening QuarkXPress, you'll find the colors in the Create new color dropdown menu (the same as Pantone tints, etc.). Have you got it?

Sorry, I don't follow. I cannot open these files from the color map. Not even with QXP.

OK. Quit Quark. Duplicate Color folder to avoid bad things. Unlock the files you wish to open. Open them in whatever text editing app. The files are XML files. Then update all the fields as needed and save under a new name such as RAL.qcl and RAL UI Spec.cui (I guess it's the same under Mac or PC, just let me know if not). Then put those 2 files in the Color folder (the official one). At relaunching Quark the new lib shall appear in the drop down menu of the Creat New Color window. It acts exactly the same as any regular color library, provided you've strictly respect the internal logics and syntax of both DTD and XML components.
