Quark 6.52 and Font Agent Pro4

I've recently installed Font Agent Pro4 on my Mac OSX (10.4.11) as the Font Book, which i've used for years, was not accepting a new font that I was trying to install.

Since then every time i try to use the Collect For Output function - Quark crashes. This has happened every single time I've tried UNLESS each item is collected individually (images, screen fonts, print fonts, colour profile etc).

    Can anyone help please?

Did you disable FontBook? Simply installing FAP does not mean FontBook is automatically disabled, particularly if FontBook was still in a mode of managing fonts when you stopped using it. So, it may be that both FAP and FontBook are trying to manage fonts at the same time which causes a conflict and then a crash.

No, I didn't. Thank you. I did wonder whether it was to do with 'file handling' as i've come across a similar problem with different versions of Acrobat in the past.

Would you happen to know how to disable Font Book?

I would start by shutting off FAP. Then open FontBook and deactivate any of the fonts you use that are not in the standard system font folders locations. Reset the FontBook database. A link to instructions on how to do that can be found here.

At this point I would close FontBook, flush font caches (Font Nuke is the program I use for this, but there are others out there), restart and then start up FAP. I'm not familiar with FAP so you may want to look through it's preferences as well to see if there is anything there that will prevent FontBook from managing fonts. If there isn't don't worry too much as having done all this FontBook is essentially managing nothing at this point.

     Hope that helps.

Crikey, I was hoping it would be a bit more straightforward (in the way of  'Preferences  - disable Font Book')

    Thanks very much. Smile

LOL! Sorry. It's a bit like Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer. It's integrated in to the OS. It's even worse with Leopard and Snow Leopard because it trys to replace any system fonts that you may remove. For example, under Snow Leopard if you want to replace the Helvetica dfont with your own Helevetica PS font you have to work around because the moment you delete the dfont out of the system fonts folder, Font Book replaces it with the same dfont again.

    Good luck...
