    style menu in quark 8

Hi, I am using a font for a book that does not come with an italic version. Can I style the font italic in the quark type style menu and have it print o.k.? this will be going to a large printer, direct to plate. Thank you

Make a test page with that font styled. Make a PDF. Print from the PDF. If you get italics then you should be good. If you don't then you know you can't do it.

Hi, Thank you. The pdf look o.k. and it prints o.k. but my printer is not postscript so that sort of concerns me.

Well, in actuality, if it could not be italicized then it would not be show in the PDF. What you could do though is send the test PDF to your printer. Ask them to print it and if they get italics then you should be good.

Interesting. I also opened it up in illustrator and it showed italic. Thank you for your help. I only wish a tech at Quark could confirm that this feature works.

Well, if the font is TrueType you will probably not see a specific Italic font for it. It's there, but you have to use the style options. That's the way it works on Windows TT fonts at least.
