He have two iMacs which are pretty much identical. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4Gb RAM, MacOS 10.6.8. We have Quark XPress 9.1 installed and we have been long time Quark users and have over a 1000 documents created in Quark. We recently (October) installed Quark XPress 9 and it has been updated to v9.1. When we try to open a previous document created in version 7. Quark goes through the process of opeing the document and when it gets to the 'Optimization' progress bar after about 75% the application bombs. I have been through all the troubleshooting options. Delete Preferences, create new user, remove XTensions Folder and still the problem exists. We have Suitcase Fusion 3 installed. I have stopped the FM Core, Completely removed Suitcase and still the problem exists. One solution I have found is. I re-installed Quark 9.0 and this can open all the files with out any problem. But once updated to Quark 9.1 the problem comes back. If I open a Quark 7 files in Quark 9.0, then save it the file then opens fine in Quark 9.1. I thought a solution was to revert back to Quark 9.0 but we have created a few new files in Quark 9.1 and Quark 9.0 does not open files created in 9.1. At the moment one of the iMacs has Quark 9.0 and 9.1 installed to 'work around' the problem but this is not the ideal solution. I have trawled through the Quark Support pages and forums and also the web but can't see any suggestions as to what the problem/solution is. I have tried the solutions to other similar problems but nothing has worked thus far. I have a CrashLog which I can post if anyone would like to view it. Thanks in advance - Simon

If you can park the document, plus associated fonts, pictures, together with the crash logs, on an FTP site, or use DropBox, and let us know where it is, then someone at Quark can take a look for you (probably me).

We are having the same problem only with 8.5 file opening in 9.1 - the opening process goes okay until it starts "optimizing" the file then it crashes. We have been trying things for two days now with not luck.

We had the same problem here and I found the article AE0270 in the knowledgebase.

For now, opening file (via the File > Open > Open dialog box ) with the option key holded works fine.

Try with 9.2 update, Crashing is fixed.

 Yep, this is fixed in our 9.2 update.

Hi, Sirish. Dan Logan has assisted me with my problem. It appears to be a bad font used in the Quark 7 document. I am currently trying to resolve the font problem (which involves a system font in Extensis Suitcase 3. I can't delete or deactivate the font. Thank you!!
