I am about at my wit's end trying to solve a problem. I hope somebody can help:
We have the final released version of QuarkXPress 8 (8.5.x) for Windows running with Quark License Administrator on multiple terminal servers in the cloud with roaming profiles enabled.
Quark had worked just fine until about 2 weeks ago when something changed other than the version of Quark or its XTensions; in fact, if you do a complete uninstall, reboot and reinstall, the problem persists.
Here is the problem:
You cannot open a template or project, or save a template or project, in any reasonable amount of time except in the user's subfolder (or any subfolder of that folder) of C:\Document and Settings.
For example, if the user JWilheim launches QXP, makes a new document, even with nothing on it, does Save As, navigates to C:\Documents and Settings\JWilheim and completes the save, as a template or porject, the file is saved almost instantly, It also can be opened from that location almost instantly.
But if the user does the same steps but navigates to anywhere else on C drive, let alone a networked drive, the save typically results in "QuarkXPress (not responding)" messages. Interestingly, if you use the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and show processes for all users, you see only one QuarkPress process running, but if you go to the Applications tab, you see two instances of "QuarkXPress (not responding)" Every once in a while, the save will complete after 4-5 MINUTES.
This happens to all users. My user, JWilheim, is an Administrator with full control and full rights to everything.
I have spent hours on the phone with Quark support to no avail. The problem persists even with a version of Quark that was stripped down, at Quark support's direction, to just the Quark executable, a handful of other files and the Required Components folder.
And it persists after removing all but the original system fonts and rebooting, and after removing all PPDs as well and rebooting, and after removing all Quark preferences as well and rebooting.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
