    built-in bullets

Here is a way to create a paragraph style to build in color bullets to save the time of applying character styles.

Here is an example, modify as needed:

Draw a 10pica wide text box.
Set some 10 point text with a 1 pica left indent.
Set a solid 4-point rule above with an indent from left of -1pica. (note negative 1 pica)
    Choose the rule color.
Set this rule to offset 1 point.
    Click OK.
Do a command-shift-N to return to the rules palette.
Set an indent from right of 9p8.
Create a paragraph style based on this to use for bulleted lists.

(For some reason, you have to click OK and get out of the rules palette and then get back into it for Quark to allow such a large indent from right.)

Warning: If you use art with runaround on top of your text boxes, or your text box changes widths throughout your document, this style will not work. The built-in rule (bullet) relies on the original text box width to do its indenting to create the bullet.

If you prefer round bullets, go to Edit-Dashes and Stripes-All Dots and create a stripe with lots of space between the dots. Then use this custom dotted stripe rather than a solid rule to build in a round bullet.

Thanks for your tip, Julie! That's clever!
I don't use bullets that often but I shall remember the tip.
