    QuarkXPress on OS X Mavericks

    Hi all,

as you all know, yesterday Apple has announced the next version of OS X, OS X Mavericks, to ship in fall.

We're not anticipating a large effort to support QuarkXPress 10 running on OS X Mavericks and expect support within 90 days of the new OS's availability.

As we've done a lot of work modernising QuarkXPress 10 inside and out, this will enable us to more immediately take advantage of new Mac OS X features.

It's a little early to talk specifics but as an example it's likely we'll get to leverage the multi-display support through our new full screen functionality and our ePub export will be certified for iBooks on OS X.

Whether QuarkXPress 9 will support OS X Mavericks is currently unknown, the good news are that if you upgrade today to QuarkXPress 9 you will get QuarkXPress 10 for free.

    Please see also here: http://forums.quark.com/p/21811/88027.aspx#88027
And of course QuarkXPress 10 will also run on Lion and Mountain Lion.

    Regards
    Matthias

EDIT: Please note that the offer I was referring to ("Buy 9 Get 10 for free") and which was valid at the time of posting, has now ended.

Do you mean that QuarkXPress 10 for Mac OS is Cocoa native and 64-bit native?

I'd like to know if CS4 will work on Mavericks.

    PowerMac G5, 2.7DP, 8Gb RAM; OSX 10.4.11.
Intel MacBook running SnowLeopard and external drive with Mountain Lion. Quark 9 and Quark 10 on ML. PowerMac 7300 with Quark 4.1 on OS 8.6.

Well, since Mavericks is made by Apple, and Photoshop/Illustrator, etc. are made by Adobe, why are you asking on a Quark forum? Those companies have their own websites.

Re: QuarkXPress on OS X Mavericks

Because Illustrator and Photoshop are essential tools. If they do not work on Marvericks we have to run QXP 10 for many years in mountain lion, or subscribe to CC. So the benefits of Marvericks with QXP will be worthless if we are forced to stay with Mountain Lion. I believe there may be many benefits running QXP in Marvericks. This question in the Adobe forums doesn't seem to be of much interest so far. The most suggest simply to subscribe to CC. For me subscription is a no go. So I did the switch to quarkxpress and will newer go back.

Re: QuarkXPress on OS X Mavericks

I have just tested Quark on our test Macs running Mavericks GM. Quark 10 work fine But Quark 9.5.3.1 crashes when using the move tool!!! This has happened on 4 Macs so far. A fix is needed as not all Quark Users will upgrade to 10 before they upgrade to mavericks. I personally will not use Quark 10 until the dual monitor palette problem is fixed, but I will want to upgrade to Mavericks as soon as I can and will not be able to use 9.5.3.1.

If you have a multiple display setup and move panels on your second (or even third) display, at restart of QXPress 10 all panels are collected on the main display in 10.9! Bad.

Yes. I have reported this to Quark and they say it's a known issue and are working in a fix. I will not upgrade until this is fixed as I use 2 monitors, and therefore I cannot update to Mavericks when released as Quark 9 crashes every time you try and move something. As Quark have stated they will not support Quark 9 on Mavericks I can see no option but to go InDesign full time. I have been a Quark user since version 3 and stuck with them through all the difficult transitions from OS9 to OSX, PPC to Intel, But enough is enough!

Re: QuarkXPress on OS X Mavericks

I installed Mavericks after installing my Quark 10.
DISASTER. Quark 10 won't even launch now.
Therefore, let this be a warning for others.
Now, I have to wait for 90 days until Quark and Apple fix the problem.
I have to go back to my In-Design (which is not my fave).

I am hoping that my Quark 10 is not ruined by this.
All I see of the contents of the Quark 10 folder are BLACK TOMBSTONES
as if Mavericks annihilated it. Does anybody know if these tombstones will come to life after Quark & Apple fix the problem?
Or, do I have to re-install my Quark 10?

    What a mess :(

    Hi Moonchild,

you don't have to wait 90 days. A statement "within 90 days" can of course mean 90 days, however we have fixed all known Mavericks issues so far in the upcoming 10.0.1. The main reason for 10.0.1 however are the performance issues, so we wil release it once that's fixed, which we currently plan for next week.

However we (and others here in the forums) have tried QuarkXPress 10 on Mavericks and besides a few issues it works fine. Can you maybe reinstall QuarkXPress 10 to see whether that solves it?

    Thanks
    Matthias
