There is a complete article on downsaving to lower versions of files in the Quark Virtual Knowledge Base that I've copied below for you. We also have many technical articles posted in the Knowledge Base at: http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/support/techinfo/knowledgebase.html
How to Save Projects Down to an Earlier Version
Applies to:
QuarkXPress 7 & 8 - Mac OS, Windows
Introduction: How can I save my QuarkXPress 8 projects down to version 7 or version 6?
More Information: Beginning
with QuarkXPress 6.0, you can only save a file one version down. For
example, you can down-save a project from QuarkXPress 8 to version 7
and from QuarkXPress 7 to version 6. However, you cannot down-save
directly from version 8 to version 6. Therefore, if you want to save a
version 8 project down to version 6, you will need to save from version
8 to version 7 and save again from version 7 to version 6.
Note:
If you are running any PLUS Edition of QuarkXPress 8, you can also
down-save projects directly to Japanese and Korean 6.5, but only for
these two language versions.
To
save a QuarkXPress 8 project to QuarkXPress 7.0 format (or, for QuarkXPress 8 PLUS Edition, to Japanese or Korean 6.5):
- Go to
File > Export > Layouts as
Project. The Export Layouts as Project
dialog box opens.
- Choose 7.0 from the Version drop-down menu.
To
save a QuarkXPress 7 project to QuarkXPress 6.0 format:
- Go to
File > Export > Layouts as
Project. The Export Layouts as Project
dialog box opens.
- Choose 6.0 from the Version drop-down menu
The Export Layouts
as Project dialog box also lets you specify which layout spaces to include
if you don’t want to export the entire project.
