Recently i have upgraded QuarkXPress Passport 7.3 to 7.31.
I export document to QuarkXPress version 6, but it cannot open it in Quark XPress Passport 6.5.
This makes me very nervous, because not everyone has Quark 7.
So, I uninstall Quark Passport and reinstall it again to version 7.3. Export option to version 6 works.
Can anybody tell me, why this happened? Or maybe why there is an update if it does not work well?

are you using QuarkXPress 6.52? One fix we specifically made in this version was compatibility with downsaved files from QuarkXPress 7.

Be sure you have V6.52 installed...

Its the latest patch especially written for v7 exported files to V6.

A rare trip to these forums for me. I am also having problems with exporting from Quark v7.31, and then opening in my Quark 6.50 version. This worked before I updated to Qv7.31 - so something has broken.

I need to send a file to another agency who wanted it in InDesign CS2 (which I don't use), but can accept Qv6.50. It is not going to look too good on our part if I have to force them to update to Qv6.52 when really they should be able to open a file Exported from Qv7.31 in this way, without any problems.

Agreed it won't look good to 'force' them but perhaps you can gently persuade them that they need to update to 6.52 as it fixed various bugs including the problem with getting files from v7, exported to 6, in!

Honestly, that will be, I suspect, the only route. My experience of trying to get anything below 6.52 to open a saved down v7 file has been a total disaster.

You don't have to since you own V7 and V6.

Export to 6 and recreate a fresh v6 with a thumbnail drag. This new file should easily open at their end. If not, they will need to patch to 6.52 anyway . And by the way , its free...
