Blending is not available in QuarkXPress 8, however we did release "Shadow Caster XT" for QuarkXPress 7 on Quark Labs. You may want to try that if you have QuarkXPress 7 too (MAC Only). http://labs.quark.com/projectdetail.aspx?did=18

If you are using yellow or black color as shadow color then uncheck the “Multiply Drop Shadow” options. It should resolves the issue. In case you still face it, please post more details about the layout.

Here's a bug I just came across. I imported a picture and set a drop shadow to it... I eventually save my document and now when I open it I still see the shadow and the picture BUT the picture is said to have no drop shadow applied. And now, there is no way to edit or remove the drop shadow in qiestion...
