As pointed out correctly by eyoungren, your printer need to be PS Compatible to be able to Export as PDF. However you can configure a vitual printer to do the job. After you install a Virtual Printer, you need to set that as default . This does not affect any functionality of the installed printers....

Did you try saving the file to the same network location from QuarkXPress? Please make sure that you have write permissions on the mounted network volume and you are able to save files to it.

I'm not sure if that will help you, but using the File > Export is not the recommended way to create high res pdf (it's OK with document that have no or very little graphics). You should be creating pdf via the Print dialog.
