Upgrade path

Postby kevlar » 14 Nov 2016, 11:28

Hi all, i have a client who is on version 9.3. They have just skipped serverl OS X updates and gone straight onto El Capitan from Leopard.

Now QuarkXpress is crashing !

The auto updater built in to the program dosnt work but I can see there are lots of updates and some refer to El Cap support.

My question is how do i get onto a working version ?. Do i have to manually install several updates and if so which ones or can i simply apply one update ?

regards,
kevlar

Think your client will have to upgrade to Quark 2015 or Quark 2016 to work with El Capitan, I don't think 9 or 10 are supported. The Installer will be stand alone, it won't require v9 to be installed.

Thanks. I did see a £299 upgrade from versions 3-10 onto 2016 - that may be the fix .....

Hi Kevlar,

there's a difference between supported and "will run (with or without flaws)".

Quark officially supports QuarkXPress 2015 (with a few know Sierra-specific issues) and QuarkXPress 2016 (without any Sierra-specific issues).

There are some people who have QuarkXPress 9 or 10 running under El Capitan, however as Quark doesn't support this combination, we cannot give you any help and you will run it at your own risk.

If you decide to upgrade, then yes, there are two upgrades paths:
- Upgrade from ANY version (so basically 3-10) to QuarkXPress 2016.
- Or upgrade from the previous version (QuarkXPress 2015) with 50% off.

You can install the upgrade without having to have the previous version installed, however you do need our previous serial number.

Currently we have a nice offer if you upgrade until Nov 30:

Regards
Matthias

Hi Kevlar,

QuarkXPress 10, 2015 and 2016 open all files from version 7 (and above) directly, no need for a converter.

Only when you have older files, so version 6 and below, then you need the free converter.

Thanks
Matthias

"Updates" are free-of-charge and are improvements within the same major version number.
"Upgrades" are substantial enhancements and therefore change the major version number and cost an upgrade fee.

For example, an update from 9.0 to 9.5 is free of charge or an update from 10.0 to 10.1.
The upgrade from 9.x to 10.x or 2016 is not free of charge.

Does that explain it?

Thanks
Matthias
