Parenthèse fermante et …

Postby pinkasimov » 08 Mar 2017, 07:42

Bonjour,
Merci

I got a problem with a closing parenthesis preceded by ellipses (...).
When you enter these 3 dots by making 3 times the ".", the parenthesis moves on the next line with the dots, but when you type them by doing "alt+.", the parenthesis turns alone at the beginning of the line …
Is there a way to prohibit this behavior ?…
Merci

Hi pinkasimov,

The ellipsis character has a save point at its end due to which any character which supersedes it will wrap across line ending. Similar behavior is exhibited by two dot leader character also. All other punctuation character like full stop, comma, semi colon, colon, exclamation mark, etc. don’t have a save point at their end, hence any character superseding it will not wrap across line ending and both the punctuation character and the superseding character will jointly move to next line.

Workaround for the issue:

1. Invoke Find/ Change > Type or copy the ellipsis character to the Find What text field in Find Change > Type ellipsis character followed by /j in Change to field > Search and replace

Note: /j is the meta character for Word joiner used in Find/ Change

In QXP 2017, you will be able to apply Non-Breaking attribute to the ellipsis character and its superseding character to prevent breaking across lines.

Hi Sirish!

Am I wrong to say the sequence for word joiner is \j instead of /j?
Have a nice day!

You are correct Jean. It was a typo error!
