I'm using 10.5.2 and cannot open files created in 9? I get "This document cannot be opened by this version of QuarkXPress. [16]" error. This problem usually occurs in the opposite situation but why won't 10 open 9 files? HELP!

Hi Even,

if the document isn't corrupt, then maybe it contains a Web layout or an Interactive (Flash) layout?

Please try QuarkXPress Document Converter. If it is that, then it will clean those references.

Thanks
Matthias

Why do I need to convert a quark 9 file so that Quark 10 can open it? I can understand if this ere the opposite situation but why won't Q10 open Q9 files. It's a simple business card file with nothing unique or special to it. I get this error when I use 10 to open this 9 file "This Project is locked. Changes cannot be saved. [315]" and then I get this "This document cannot be opened by this version of QuarkXPress. [16]" e"
Where can I download the converter?

BTW, the file is not corrupt, it will open in Q9. No web layout and no flash

Hi Evan,

then you do not need a converter, QuarkXPress 10 can open any file last saved by QuarkXPress 7 or above if it doesn't contain a Web or Flash layout.

Is this Mac or Windows? Which version exactly please? Creator Update of Windows 10?
Or maybe access rights? Is the document still being accessed by QuarkXPress 9? Exotic characters in the file name? Virus scanner still active?

Thanks
Matthias

I know I should be able to open Q9 files using Q10 but I get the 2 messages I've posted below. My Q10 (10.5.2 on my mac) will not open my Q9 files and I cannot figure out why. I open Q10 and navigate to the file ( originally created in Q9) and click open but it will not. I've dragged and dropped the Q9 file onto the Q10 icon and get the same messages. I've tried other Q9 files and get the same problem. No unusual characters but I have Norton in a background. When I look at the files in a finder window, they are "data" files under the "Kind" header. They should be quark files. I will run disk utility and see if that works.

I ran Disk Utilities to fix permissions. No help. I still get "This Project is locked. Changes cannot be saved. [315]" and "This document cannot be opened by this version of QuarkXPress. [16]"

Can you disable Norton temporarily and try again please?

Also, are you using a file extension (.qxp, .qxd)? Please try ".qxp"

Thanks
Matthias
