QXP cannot open files created in a later version.

QXP can only save one version back, so if I am understanding, you want to open a file created in v.2017 in v.2015? You would need to export from v.2017 to v.2016, open in v.2016 and export back to v.2015. Then it would open in v.2015.

If this is something you need to do and do not have v.2016, I could do the back saves for you. I would need just the .qxp file. No images or fonts. Upload to a file sharing service such as dropbox or the like and send me a private message for the download link. The just check back here for a PM with the download link.

A clever developer from Quark would certainly be able to create an online application to save files to lower versions. It would be such a nice service from Quark when it does not offer something like IDML.

allow me to be cynical and suggest that idml only works because not much has changed since CS4 :D
and also to point out that opening a file with an earlier version can often result in all manner of conversion issues, text reflow, missing pictures, totally resetting color management, picture effects removed, incorrect pages in a placed pdf, incorrect document page sizes and so on.

Hmmm, now I'm cynical: QuarkXPress still lags behind CS4. (Of course, I admit - Quark also has some great features that InDesign still does not have). We use IDML for our customers who have CC and no big problems. For example, the expensive paid Markzware Q2ID plugin also opens a document with small differences, but the user is still glad that the document may not be recreated. ID has this option for free, Quark has no option.

Click on my name--it's a link to my profile. There is (should be) another link there to send me a private message.

Take care, Mike

Unless Quark has changed things, do you not see this when you click on my name?

Hi Jiri,

That's true for the Desktop version. Though we implemented QXML in 2004 – a long time back before IDML, we solely enabled it in QuarkXPress Server, as we have seen that more as an automation method (API) and not as an exchange format.

Thanks
Matthias
