How to remove content outside margin, etc.

Postby Talonkaine » 04 Dec 2016, 22:50

Greetings,
First time posting here. I'm am new to QuarkxPress and have been trying to teach myself how to use it so please bear with me. I am having the following two issues.

A: I would like to know how to remove the black text and those weird icons that appear outside the margins when I export the PDF using Press- High Quality/High Resolution. They don't appear when I export under medium quality, but they are there for every other type of export option.

B: Why does it throw my dark red and silver page headers and footers out of wack when I export using Press- High Quality/High Resolution?

I've attached two images.. the first is from Quark itself. The second image is after being exported.

Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks.

Hi Talon,

in PDF Options there is a tab called "Registration Marks". Set them to "Off" then the cut marks and registration marks will not be exported.

About the differences on screen and in PDF, I see a color shift in your red bar. So the red looks different. Is that what you mean? You probably have RGB colors defined and export as CMYK. CMYK doesn't show bright colors as well as the screen (RGB) does.

So two things: a) calibrate your monitor and let QuarkXPress simulate your output please (View menu > Proof Output). And b) when you create a screen PDF set the color to RGB (in PDF options) please.

Thanks
Matthias

Thanks Matthias,

You fixed my problem A... Thanks!

However what I was asking in question B was not about the colors, but rather you see at the top of each page I have a colored bar, in the screen shot it's a red bar along the top/bottom of page 39... and a grey bar along the top/bottom of page 40. When viewed in Quark (First image I shared) they look great and are lined up perfectly. However view the second image I shared of when it is exported to PDF and you will see the red bar from page 39 overlaps into page 40.... and the grey bar from page 40 over laps into page 39. What would be causing this? Any ideas?

In general, depending upon the binding type, the cross over in the bleed area is not an issue. The trim will be at the intersection of the red/gray cross over and even if the trim is slightly off, it is in the binding area.

If you do not need bleed to the inside then you can adjust those rectangles to stop at the spine. You can use less bleed at the spine, or hold them off the spine a touch.
