We recently updated to QuarkXpress 2016 from QuarkXpress 9 (Windows), and I'm hearing some complaints of the B/W images being muddy (no complaints about 4-color pages). I haven't been able to see these pages in person yet, but I before I do, I was just wondering if there were any known issues with CMYK to Grayscale conversion. I never had any issues before, and I imported the same same 1-c output settings I was using before... just trying to nail down where this issue might be originating.

Hi Dria,

you need to share more details please. As you outputting as Grayscale? Then you might want to use the "Grayscale 100K" output profile. Or are you outputting as RGB/CMYK and the grayscale images do not convert properly?

Thanks
Matthias

Yes. I'm outputting for both a print (B/W & Color pages) and online editions (Full Color). Aside from the occasional problematic image, I never had much issue with letting Quark convert images from CMYK to Grayscale... but, apparently, now there is.

I imported the output settings that I've been using for years (in Quark 9), but I will look into the "Grayscale 100K" output profile when I get into the office.

Additionally: I know that it's now suggested to let InDesign convert RGB images to CMYK for you, is the same true for QuarkXpress 2016? Or should we continue using only CMYK/GrayScale images? Thanks!

Hi Dria,

personally I am not aware of any issues with Grayscale 100k output (and conversion), so please try and let me know the results.

Thanks
Matthias
