Warning! Some XTensions crash QuarkXPress under El Capitan

Discuss third-party XTensions® software for QuarkXPress 2015 and QuarkXPress 2016.
As the API hasn't changed between 2015 & 2016 versions, most XTension running in QuarkXPress 2015 should also work in QuarkXPress 2016.

Warning! Some XTensions crash QuarkXPress under El Capitan

Postby Matthias Guenther (Quark) » 09 Oct 2015, 08:40

Hi all,

when you are using QuarkXPress 2015 on El Capitan, please

1) make sure that you update to the latest version of QuarkXPress. Only the El Capitan Update for QuarkXPress 2015 (internal version number 11.2) will run fine on OS X 10.11.

2) make sure that all 3rd party XTensions you are using are also compatible with El Capitan. We saw some crash reports where the crash was caused by an XTension. Disable all 3rd party XTs first and then test again.

Should you crash, please send us the crash report, best through Crash Reporter (which comes up after a crash). Make sure you use the one that says "Send to Quark" and not "Send to Apple" please.

Thanks
Matthias

Hi all,

specifically we have noticed a lot of crash reports when Suitcase Fusion 6 XTension was installed. Please remove the XTension from QuarkXPress 2015 until Extensis has supplied a fix.

Please note that this crash ONLY happens under El Capitan, on all other versions of OS X it is fine.

Thanks
Matthias

Excuse me, but there is no (Extensis) Suitcase Fusion 6 "Xtension" in the Xtensions folder. What xtension exactly are you referring to please?

This incompatibility is a big issue. I have talked to Extensis Suitcase Fusion tech support and posted in the forum undwr a different thread of this "known" incompatibility of the Suitcase Fusion 6 auto-activation plug-ins for Quark 2015 in El Capitan. Turning the plugin OFF in plugins manager helped stop the crashes. But the other issue is that some Quark text boxes still appear empty. The only work around for that is to manually turn the fonts ON by manually dragging and install the unrendered fonts from Suitcase Fusion 6 into the OS X Library Fonts folder.

Hi djt,

Extensis has an extension to enable automatic font enabling. That XT is currently causing a crash. Extensis is working on a fix and will release an update soon.

Thanks
Matthias
