Image corruption issue

Postby chrisnz_nz » 15 Jan 2018, 22:37

Hi all,

I just came across another image (had a few like that before in the last 2 months) that seems to get corrupted or simply does not display correctly. When I look at the file in Photoshop, it looks fine. On importing that same file I get an odd stripe across the image. See screen snapshots from QXP page and PS. When exporting that page to PDF, the image looks like in QXP, so that indicates it is not just a display issue, but actually corrupted image file inside QXP. Or am I wrong in that assumption?

Also tried the same image in ID CS6 and no issue there.

This has happened a few times now and on previous occasions I have opened the file in PS and re-saving it has cleared the issue. But, there is something really odd gong on in QXP 2017. I have never seen an issue like that, and in a fairly random way.

Should I open another support ticket to get this looked at? Are there any current bugs that I am not aware of that may be already looked at?

Cheers
Chris

There have been some reports of PSDs that have corrupted. From what I have read, reimporting it has worked for some, others saving and refreshing the link as you have done has worked. As far as I recall, it's not on every PSD and not in every document that it occurs with.

I don't use PSDs a lot unless they come to me as PSD files. If there are layer effects, etc., I will (almost) always save out a flattened TIFF file. Whenever these reports have surfaced, I have opened old files I know have linked PSDs and they have always been OK.

QXP 2017 13.1.1 is the latest version and I believe there were fixes in it for identified PSD issues. And I believe Matthias sent an early release of it to anyone requesting it via the Facebook group. Those that identified themselves as receiving it all said it fixed their issues.

There is a new dot release coming out soon but I don't know if there are further PSD fixes in it.

Hi Mike,

I am running 13.1.1 and these images are all jpg files. We get a very large proportion of images through as jpg files. Mostly from pretty high grade DSLR cameras, and then the odd file here and there that is fairly poorly lit or has other quality issues. But basically, I would expect QXP to be able to import any jpg. file, no matter which device created it, if PS or ID or Apple's Preview or Affinity Photo app render the file just fine.

Basically this is not a PSD file issue, but then, I am not a programmer :)

Cheers

Hi Chris,

we list known issues here:

As far as I know there's no JPG specific issue known, so yes, please send us the file for analysis.

Thanks
Matthias

Ah, it was the mere mention of PS that threw me off track. Thanks for the clarification. I've never had such an issue so I am glad to see Matthias is on it, so I will bow out.

Hi Matthias,

I sent PM with a dropbox link. That is a bit faster and if that image seems ok at your end, I need to try and find another some others that gave me grief a little while ago, but I think I opened and saved with PS back then to solve the problem.

Cheers
