Output Styles Metadata not editable in QXP2018 but present!

Postby acsr » 05 Jun 2018, 03:30

Prerequisite

When I configured QXP2018 to our company standards, I also imported former output styles exported as XML from QXP2016 and QXP2017 from our project documentations and evaluated the results.

Issue in detail

When editing the output styles in QXP2018 the section "Metadata" is gone in both the global general editing dialog and the subdialog during the export session.

After importing existing styles via XML from former QXP versions into QXP2018, existing docinfo metadata present in the xml is imported into QXP2018 but not visible in the UI.
After exporting a PDF using an imported output style from before QXP2018 containing metadata presets,
  • the former metadata preset is written by QXP2018 into the PDF as is.
  • You have to review the PDF and manually remove or edit the metadata.
  • The data is not manageable in QXP2018 but only by exporting and editing the XML by hand.
When reexporting the output style in QXP2018 as XML the resulting XML file still contains the DocInfo tag section in the <OutputSettings XTid="XPDF"> node.

Additional Question

There is no official link to a QuarkXpress bugtracker form is visible on the Quark websites or searchable there or via google. Any ideas from Matthias Guenther (Quark)?

Update
After
  • exporting affected output styles as XML
  • deleting the PDF metadata from the XML (whole <DocInfo> tag element)
  • reimporting the styles XML

The exported PDF contains as metadata (without further settings):
  • Title = "Layout Name"
  • Author = "䄀爀洀椀渀 匀琀爀漀ⴀ刀愀搀猀挀栀椀渀猀欀椀"
  • other fields empty

Remark: At first sight the content of the field Author matches the letters of the license holders name.

additional info
All QuarkXPress 2018 factory default output styles contain the following setup for the <DocInfo> tag element

Code: Select all
...
    <OutputSettings XTid="XPDF">
        ...
        <DocInfo Author="" IncludeMetaData="true" Keywords="" Subject="" Title=""/>
        ...

Hi Acsr,

you can change meta data in QuarkXPress 2018 in the "Layout > Metadata" menu.

Thanks
Matthias

Matthias,
thanks for a quick workaround.

The issue with unset metadata resulting in broken PDF metadata remains.

Another issue is moving former metadata from the old outputstyles saved with the QXP2016,2017 file to the layout metadata dialog can be a great disaster when unseen details are stil, present in the future but not explicitly set by the user.

By the way the metadata in the PDF was not gathered from the saved output style xml. But exports still keep this data even in 2018 if imported!
