Postby PetarMakedonecot » 29 Jul 2015, 04:38

There are following characters formating in "Characters Style Sheets":

All Caps;
Small Caps.

But, these are missing:

Lower Case;
Title Case.

Hi Petar,

are you missing the functionality or do you just ask to see them as buttons?

If you need this functionality, it is in the Style Menu under Change Case.

Thanks

No Matthias,
I am missing them into Character Styles. It would be very nice if they are inside "Character Styles".
As an example:
Somebody formated manually all headings with Caps Lock active. and you, as a designer, don't find it very nice. So, you like to change them into "Title Case" but without manual work arround. So, it would be usefull if they are formated with some Character Style containing the "Title Case" option.

Hi Petar,

which is the same thing, right, as when they are in the measurement palette for "characters" they will also appear in Character Style Sheets.

What's really important for any feature wish is what you have just done, to let us know your motivation, the why and not only the how. So thanks for that.

Regards
Matthias

I've just explained my motivation. But, let me do it once again.

1. You have a book with hudreds of Titles written with ALL CAPS and no any kind of style asigned to them.
2. You decided that it is not a very good idea Titles to be in ALL CAPS, but what to do?
3. You would like them in Title Case and assign to them a Character Style but, Oh My God, there is no Title Case in Character Styles?!?!?

Manual formating?
And what about if you decide later to change Title Case into Small Caps?

Just some suggestions if I am allowed.

- you can select a paragraph (after its manual formatting), then right-click (or Cmd-click) and choose from contextual menu "Update Style Sheet".
- the "Style Sheets" palette has its own contextual menu, just press the small icon on the right side of the title bar; you can try to play with all that commands.

I know every user has his own way to treat a problem, maybe he's way was learned in many years based on using some specific feature in certain software. Well, it is a real thing, each software has its own "philosophy". For a similar command, somewhere in the background one software may run in a very different way than other software (changing only a small piese in the source code may cause malfunctions in other chapters, so rewritten code may be unproductive, time consuming). That is why I learned that I have to manage to work with a software using what it provides to me, so I have to find the best way to improve my productivty with the existing tools.
IMHO, the "perfect" piece of software does not exist. Of course, we all want to try to improve what we're loving.

I hope not to be misunderstood.
Regards.

And who stops you to create as many style sheets as you need?

BTW, even a blanc layout has one style sheet at least. That one called "Normal". Apart from the other one called "No Style".
