Unnecessary complexity

The program isn't made deliberately difficult, the world the program works in - the industry that requires it, and others like ID - require certain things to be done in certain ways and they can't be achieved by programs with lesser abilities, like MS Paint etc. (or the abortion that is MS Publisher...

Unnecessary complexity

Well, what can I say, I was bored and this thread amused me! Thanks dreeves! I think I might be able to summarise something ... is Quark (or ID or any other professional level piece of software) unnecessarily complex? No, it's necessarily complex but it's also flexible. You can reduce the number of ...

Unnecessary complexity

I haven't been active on this forum in a fair while now, but I do check by occasionally and bumped in to this thread ... amusing it is too! Can't help myself, time to type here again. Ok, in one respect I'd have to agree with the OP, Quark is hugely complex and to a degree not at all intuitive. InDe...

Can't upgrade to 7.02 or 7.3!

To be honest, rather than download each update (which you shouldn't really need to do) I think it's easier to simply get the 7.31 evaluation version then activate it as a full version. Because the eval copy isn't knobbled in anyway apart from the time limit validating it as a full copy will do the j...

layers

I wonder if the OP means the content of the layer - in which case surely using a master page is the answer. Set up the data you want on a layer on the relevant master page, job done. If you want this data to appear on some pages and not others you'll need to have different masters - one with the dat...

Needed: Opening a Quark file in InDesign

We use Q2ID (the Markzware utility) all the time we need to open old Quark stuff as we no longer use XPress and it's fine. It'll mess up some stuff - particularly text formatting and, sometimes, images but generally it's useable. The ID user needs to have it, not you (the Quark user). Once installed...

Strange line spacing issue

I note you've got a workaround, but I wondered could the camera, when anchored, have text runaround on it? Or maybe different leading or space after/before? My thought is to try to make it work with an anchored image as that's a lot easier to deal with than having to move lots of little images just ...
