Quark's marketing silliness

Puerile messages, fake attitude, and stolen concepts don't impress me. Well-crafted typography and design do. Whoever created these postcards was so busy insulting the competition and patronizing their customers they didn't bother to kern the headlines or superscript the s or even correct the defaul...

SEMI-OT: Anybody having trouble with FontAgent Pro lately?

Well, after the first round of procedures I mentioned earlier, Insider support gave me a detailed list of files to delete so that there would be nothing at all left of the program, which they then had me reinstall after repairing permissions again. This alleviated the slowness but did nothing for th...

SEMI-OT: Anybody having trouble with FontAgent Pro lately?

I have a G5 1.8 (single-processor), 1GB RAM, OSX 10.3.8. I've been using FontAgent Pro and recently upgraded to version 3.0. When I installed Security Update 2005-002 and iPod Updater 2005-02-22 a few weeks ago, FontAgent got all bickety. It won't display PostScript Type 1 fonts properly, and activa...

Off-topic MS WORD question.

I had to give up on Entourage because it chokes on the no-subject no-sender e-mails I get so often because one of my e-mail accounts is a spam magnet. (it's a corporate account I have no direct control over.)

If not for this major problem, I'd prefer Entourage for business use.

Hands up who still uses Rotring pens?!

I don't think I've touched a Rotring/Rapido in 10 years. It's also been about that long since I used ruby/amber or shot a stat. And it's probably almost 20 years since I last made a custom transfer. On the other hand, I did get a nifty X-Acto gash in my left index finger a year or two ago when build...

importing illustrations

Well, the one I linked to is. Here's a link for the Windows version. Illustrator prints the file correctly because--well, because Illustrator's a PostScript editor, and it would be pretty darn useless if it couldn't print PostScript data accurately. I don't know why your colleague is seeing the illu...

I'm guessing you don't have a PostScript printer, right? Quark unfortunately can't render PostScript directly to the screen and relies on the preview embedded in EPS files instead. Same deal for printing, if you're not printing to a PostScript printer. (PostScript printers naturally render the PostS...

Sounds like you don't have the option to embed fonts in your PDF selected...?

Font conflicts/problems

Joanne,

Problems with Emigre fonts have been reported in this thread, and in this thread.

To judge from a quick cursory reading of the threads, you're going to have to upgrade the fonts.

Need Advice on best Justification Method to use

Eek, I didn't even think about the implications of modifying the default Standard H&J.

Linda, thanks for clarifying that.
