Re: Top Ten List of Coworker Annoyances

I have a new one to add... when you hand over a document to a coworker for some minor changes and you get it back and it has 50 different fonts in it that weren't there before.

Re: 10.5 crash printing EPS with TIFF preview/binary encodin

Quark 2015 seems to have resolved this issue. I tested the document in 10.5 and it still bombs when trying to print or make a PDF. Quark 2015 was able to do both successfully.

Re: Quark won't import jpg???

Sometimes, with weird image issues like that, I resolve the issue by opening it in photoshop, selecting all, creating a new file, pasting it, and resaving it...maybe as cover2.jpg...forcing photoshop to write the file from scratch. If the image is somehow damaged but can still be opened, that might ...

Check it anyway. At this point, what do you have to lose?

Re: Quark won't import jpg???

You might have some invisible characters in the name. If the person who named it copied and pasted the name from somewhere else, it could have picked up some hidden characters. This happens a lot when copying from Excel or the internet. Try clicking on the file and selecting the entire name and past...

Re: Forces to use InDesign

I think the Markzware extensions are helpful if you don't have a copy of the other program. Even though they aren't perfect conversions, sometimes, they are better than starting a large document from scratch. But whenever I use them, I never wind up with a document that doesn't need a lot of clean-u...

Re: Top Ten List of Designer/Operator Annoyances

I got a new one. Drop shadows - just because you can add them to everything on a page doesn't mean you should.

"Hey, why don't we add a big, giant drop shadow to all that 9-point type on every page?"

Ummm. Yeeeah. Let's not do that. Ever.

10.5 crash printing EPS with TIFF preview/binary encoding

Anybody else having this issue? I have a few thousand images saved as EPS files with clipping paths, saved with a TIFF preview and binary encoding. For some reason, Quark 10.5 running on Mac OS 10.9.5 hates these images and crashes when I try to print or make a PDF. I saved a project back down to v9...

Re: Top Ten List of Coworker Annoyances

Speaking of beans, I’ve used ID and I don’t understand why some people think of it as a magic bean that is going to sprout into a beanstalk that leads them to a goose that lays golden eggs. It eventually got the job done, but it crashed more in two weeks than my Quark has in the last 5 years. All th...

Top Ten List of Coworker Annoyances

1. When someone is claiming we should switch to Indesign because Quark "can't" do something that is has been able to do since version 4. 2. When someone has a technical problem and I ask them what they tried to do to resolve it and they say, "Nothing. I just called you." 3. When someone designs a pi...
