Re: Option drag duplicate destroys object hierarchy

Right, I wasn't speaking for everyone. Our company has great working tools that do everything we need for our situation. Others may want or need the later additions and improvements, and want still more. I always wished you could just buy features or "tools" instead of upgrades (and I always liked Q...

Re: Option drag duplicate destroys object hierarchy

No need to be defensive, I wasn't implying anything about Quark at all. The whole computer industry is built around the profit model of ever-increasing obsolescence. In the old days you bought your tools once and used them until they wore out. My X-Acto knife still works exactly the way it did 40 ye...

Re: Option drag duplicate destroys object hierarchy

Yup, that's how they force customers to pointlessly spend tens of thousands of dollars. If this is the only side-effect we'll continue to live with it. Upgrading Quark means upgrading the OS, which means upgrading all our other software, which means "upgrading" Adobe to monthly subscriptions for all...

Re: Option drag duplicate destroys object hierarchy

Should be OK. We're all on Yosemite. (Staying competitive in print publication by not spending tens of thousands of dollars in upgrades that do literally nothing towards advancing our business needs, but I'm not here to justify that.) Is there a conflict between Quark 9.X and Yosemite that might cau...

Re: QUARKXPRESS 10.5 convert Form into vector graphic

If the image you refer to was created as a vector object in Quark, then saving as PDF or EPS should preserve the vector information when re-opened in Illustrator. If the object or image is a raster you'd need to outline it with the pen tool. I don't believe Quark has any option for converting raster...

Re: Missing Images

What happens when you click "Show"? Does it show you the pasteboard area, but nothing is selected? If you click Cancel then command-K, does the "missing" image go away? Or will it still be there next time you check with the picture utility?

Option drag duplicate destroys object hierarchy

This happens at least 50% of the time on every installation of Quark 9.X I use (and I'm pretty sure it was doing it in Quark 8.X also). When I use the option-drag method to duplicate an object in a layout it destroys the entire object hierarchy of the page or spread. It seems all picture boxes insta...

Re: insert a discretionary return

I think I figured it out. With a bit more research I discovered that the discretionary return in Quark is technically a "zero-width space." Found the code for that and this script now works. tell document 1 of application "QuarkXPress" tell selection set every text where it is "/" to "/" & {characte...

Re: insert a discretionary return

Thanks. That's closer, but not quite what I need. I need to keep the slash and also have a discretionary return. This version (below) using the unicode you provided works except it's using soft returns, not discretionary returns. I can't find the correct code for a discretionary return or I think it...

insert a discretionary return

I've been trying for hours to find even the basic information I need to make this script, and just can't come up with it. Is it possible to create an applescript that will replace every instance of "/" in my selected text with the slash plus a discretionary return (option-\)?
