Quark crashes when importing text with Xtags

I was having the same problem. Contacted Em--found out it has to do with Quark's long document handling, not Xtags. I have a directory job with over 18,000 entries (sorted two ways, so the final count is around 37,000). So, I simply kept good count, and imported in lots of 1,000. A bit annoying, gra...

Problems importing Acrobat 7 & 8 pdf files

That's normally the best way of doing things, I found. When supplying press-ready art as PDF, I normally select the X1a designation, regardless if Quark or ID.To deal with the importing PDF issues, I, as a rule, run all PDFs through PitStop (to check for any issues), then save the certified PDF as a...

little resolution in WMF

And, to add to slickriptide:If there are plenty of detailed vectors, it is unsurprising that the file size may seem a bit large. The same thing would happen if you converted large areas of type to outlines. If you are concerned about image quality, slickriptide's advice is right on. Unless you have a...

little resolution in WMF

Is your line art vector or bitmap-based? If it is bitmapped, and you aren't doing some non-standard color work such as duotones, why not just convert all the EPS art to TIFF? This is platform-independent, and should take care of your problems. It will only be an issue of selecting output quality whe...

Job Scheduling Software

Depending upon your needs and skills, it may be possible to set something up in FileMaker (they also have Web options). The third-party apps can be quite expensive--I know of firms that bemoan this after purchase. If you have a good programmer, it may be possible to do something quick-and-dirty via ...

Color depth: XYZ or grayscale images that separates!

You also didn't have to wait for your client--the image conversion sounds like it could be automated in Photoshop using Actions. And, unless the images contained vector images, it may be faster to process at the end if they were exported as TIFFs (would also solve the color gamut issue).

Stupid ID

Sorry to hear, Erik,But you may want to do a Google search for a plugin...Right now, I have ID issues of my own--I am having to work with three versions--CS, CS2, and CS3. Some keyboard and menu shortcuts change from version to version, and so it takes a bit of adjustment.Although this may create so...

STABILITY PLEASE

I'd agree that Quark has some deficiencies to overcome. But on stability in general, it has been my experience that Quark is much more stable that ID (both CS2 and 3). I do my fair share of magazine and other large document work, and ID seems to be more flakey there--I can expect a fair amount of cra...
