Re: Word import crashes Quark

My Word version has those preferences turned off.

In the trouble file, the double dashes is encoded strange if you look at the document.xml file. In fact, the whole thing has weird encoding in various places.

It would be interesting to know if a new file from this person does this.

Re: Word import crashes Quark

Isn't that odd? I cannot get a new or other existing file to fail when double-dashes are present. They come in and the quotes/double dashes get converted just fine. And if I take that text from the problem document into a new document by first pasting it into a text editor, copy and paste into a new...

Re: Word import crashes Quark

If it is Save As from Word as an RTF and then import, it also doesn't crash, even with the convert quotes active. If I open that RTF back into Word, use the Compatibility to convert to a DOCX, then save as a docx, it will also import with the convert quotes on. If I reset the styles in the DOCX as d...

Re: Non-breaking space after any one digit character

If you have QXP 2018, this can be done using a two-step process using the as-shipped GREP Search and Replace JavaScript followed by Quark's regular Find/Change. Kind of a hack, but I think it will work for you. As I use a PC, I have no idea about using AppleScript. Do this on a copy of your publicat...

Re: Fonts in 2018

As regards the inability to backsave more than one version, you might want to do the following: Open QXP 2016. Create a new project. Create a small text frame and fill with placeholder text. Now export this as Tagged Text. Open that up--it's just a plain text file. Look at the first line. Now start ...

Re: thin line around photographs when exporting

Without a sample PDF or screen shot it's difficult to assess. What type of PDF is being exported? PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3 or ? Are these what are commonly called "stitching lines" that can happen when transparency is flattened? Or an artifact that shows up in the PDF around a image box and there is no tra...

Excellent! Thanks for getting back with the paths to the Mac. I'm sure it'll help others.
