Re: "Save Text" and footnote loss

Old style kerning

Hello all. Is there a way to globally edit kerning pairs for old style numerals? For example (though it's a recurrent, decade-long issue for me), the current book I'm typesetting has folios set in the typeface Winchester (roman old style figures). The native kerning of Winchester, as with lots of fo...

Endnote callouts/text

Hi all. In scholarly book typography, we tend to set footnote/endnote callouts, in the body of the prose their embedded in, as superscripts. The footnotes/endnotes themselves, however (either at chapter end, or in the backmatter of the book as a discrete chapter) are often set unsuperscripted—i.e., ...

"Save Text" and footnote loss

Hello all.

I'm attempting to export the contents of a file created in QuarkXPress 2016 to a Word document, and the process is working marvelously, but lacks footnotes and their callouts.

Has anyone got a solution for this?

With thanks,
J

Re: e-book conversions?

Thanks so much, Ramesh.

Alas, I can't figure out how to get the epub extensions to load without error.

Anyone reading this read: interested in being hired to convert a Quark doc to epub and possibly one other ebook format, for a client?

With best wishes,
J

e-book conversions?

Hello all.

Has anyone had success converting a QXP 2016 file to an e-book? One of my clients needs this done, and I'm clueless—

With best wishes,
Jeff

Re: QXP 2016 / QXP 8

Agree with all you've written there, Erik. Forgot to make one thing clear: PDFs have made QXP vs InD moot, in my niche anyway, since if what I'm to deliver printers is output-ready PDF, no one really cares what I've used to generate the layouts. The snag I ran into involved two well-known NY publish...

Re: QXP 2016 / QXP 8

Thanks for the book tips—and, more importantly, I'm glad you're on the other side of those surgeries. Hope you're well now! I'm a bull about QXP because over the years I've steadily and gradually improved the kerning tables of the 20–30 serif faces I use for book interiors, and feel that's the heart...

Re: QXP 2016 / QXP 8

It does take a village! And speaking of the "evil" other software, would you believe that in my industry (literary publishing), I'm the only freelancer/self-employed designer/compositor who not only still uses QXP, but also, has had to be let go by some NY publishers because I've refused to switch t...

Re: QXP 2016 / QXP 8

Glad to know this, Erik. Thanks! I will use .qxp next time around.

And, I'm amazed you're still helping folks out around here—a true comrade. You helped me rescue myself/my workworld a couple times, a few years ago . . .
