Text alignment

Hi folks, I have an old version of Quark (8.5) and I'm having trouble getting the text to be justified throughout the layout. To explain: I'm working on a booklet and would like the text to be justified throughout the layout. Simple: Modify>Text>Vertical Alignment>Justified. The problem occurs when ...

Re: Compression and Quark 8.5

Hi Mike, I messed around with the compression, as you mentioned, and I seem to get the best results from choosing the PDF/X-ia: 2001 option (with the Marks deselected). The file exported okay at 300dpi with a PDF size of 11MBs, markedly smaller than the near 50MBs I had without compression. I suppos...

Re: Compression and Quark 8.5

Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply. I have two files (both jpgs) to go into the Quark file. As you wrote, both files need to be c."3450" pixels to be 29cm and 300dpi; both are close to it as one is 3307 (3.4MBs) and the other is 3508 (4.49MBs). When both jpgs are open in Photoshop they are, though, accor...

Compression and Quark 8.5

Hi folks, I have a photograph in Lightroom, which I Exported at 300dpi with the long edge being 29cm (29cm being the length of the tri-fold leaflet that will be printed). This results in a 6MB jpg, which I want to put into a Quark document and Export as a PDF. Problem: doing this bumps up the size t...

Re: Character altered

Yes, it looks like a problem with Quark. The upgrade sorted it and the trial version of Quark 2016 is fine. Problem appears to be with the transparency: the paper texture layer was covering the text, but it was set to only 5% opacity and shouldn't have made any difference to the legibility or colour...

Re: Character altered

Thanks for the info. Now updated to 8.5 and ... voila! It worked! When exporting as a PDF all upper case characters are now showing as they should with the accents in the proper places. I did nothing to the Quark file other than installing the update (I thought I'd just print it before I mess about ...

Re: Character altered

Oops! Mea culpa. I thought this section was for general problems with exporting PDFs. Hopefully, someone will see this anyway. If it helps here are the screen shots, on my flickr acc., of the problem: https://www.flickr.com/photos/146774534@N03/with/31868676700/ One shot is taken in Quark, where the...

Re: Character altered

I have Quark 8, the only option I can see in the Transparency section is "Ignore Transparency Flattening". This is unticked. I ticked it, just to see what would happen, and the resultant PDF printed only the jpg background image (with no transparency) whilst removing the text box. I'm not a Quark ex...

Re: Character altered

Hi Mike,
I've used Times New Roman, Aerial, Tahoma and Calibri--all with the same result. Format is standard (I assume you mean bold, italicised etc?). I would add an attachment to explain it better but can't see that facility here.

Character altered

Hi all, I'm having problems when exporting a Quark file as a PDF. To explain: there are characters in the text with various accents, circumflexes etc. All looks fine in Quark, but after I export as a PDF I note that the "Ò" character displays the accent in the wrongplace. It prints as an "O" with th...
