I am a little mystified though -- we have other writers who use the double hyphens in Word and their files don't cause any problems.
Maybe they have a preference set in Word to convert them to em dashes automatically?

Re: Word import crashes Quark

We found the culprit: It's the double-hyphens (--) causing this. QuarkXPress converts them to an em-dash when you set the preferences to convert quotes. Why it crashes we still don't know. Workaround for now (choose one): - Do not use double hyphens - Convert double hyphens to em dash before importi...

Re: Word import crashes Quark

Hi J,

when you uncheck "convert quotes" then it doesn't crash. We are investigating the exact reason.

Thanks

How to quickly create a flip book…

Here's a small "Making of" video by one of our users.

It shows how to quickly create a flip book – e.g. for book marketing purposes:

Dropped support for IE, added Opera

Hi all, besides larger changes in the HTML5 Publications (which now can be progressive web apps), we made a few notable change in the support of browsers when exporting from QuarkXPress 2018: HTML5 Publications DO NOT SUPPORT Internet Explorer (IE) by Microsoft anymore. Use Microsoft Edge instead (o...

Re: Xpress 2017 on Windows 10 - no printers found

There are two hurdles I see with Linux: Hardly anybody supports Linux. Chicken & Egg, I know, and nobody wants to be the egg. Font support is a real issue though. It's costly to port a UI. Even more, as many people use Linux as they believe it's "cheaper". However, never say never. Thanks Matthias
