font management

jtfey, We're running OSx 10.3.5 on G5s and using Suitcases X11 to manage our few hundred fonts. We have very few problems besides the occassional corrupt font from a client or a server. I do recommend upgrading to 10.3 if you can. It has some neat interface features. Do not use FontBook which Apple ...

HELP!!!!! Distiller won't recognize OT Zapf!!!

KHCAP,

sorry not to make your day. I just tried it as well. I have noticed that by zooming out I can see the greyed out greeking of the font. So at least I know a character is there, but I'm waiting for a real solution just like everyone else.

PDF's Created: Just Like On-Screen Preview

m:ra, It may not have anything to do with OPI. I always leave those options on. two things to try, 1. when you print, make sure resolution is set to normal and not to lo-res. 2. and don't use the print pdf button in the print dialog box. Instead, use the "Export Layout as pdf" function to make a .ps...

Spot Colors convert to Process in PDF

A question for Robert,

Is there a disadvantage to setting the nDevice as the default for exporting pdfs if I typically only deal with 4C and not necessarily need a 5th color? as opposed to using just a composite?

vielen dank

Problems Printing Seperations

katie

I've been doing tests running Quark 6.1 on OS 10.3.5. Try sending a pdf to the printer. I ripped 5C pdfs and they seemed fine.

At least the printer didn't call and complain.

You can't rule out a new pre-press person at the printer either. See what they recommend.

good luck.

HELP

desiree, when it comes down to QuarkXpress, I can only recommend formal training. It's a really deep program with lots of features, but if you don't know what you're doing, you're only going to be frustrating yourself and your clients. tutorials and books are good as reference or occassional refresh...

Spot Colors convert to Process in PDF

Bart, pdf has always been a tough thing when working with match colors. does the job require other 4C? My quickest and easiest workaround for spot color is to set up the document in 4C and designate the pantone color as either Cyan or Magenta. All the other separations end up blank. hope this helps....

i want to learn about quark xpress

Littlefeetoo, Quark is a very useful tool for publishing. It's designed to simplify repetitive tasks when creating multi-page documents when the pages need to have many common elements over and over from one issue to another. It's a little expensive to pick up unless your work depends on it. If it w...

"Export to PDF" crashing QXP 6.1

amaronee,

Quark just released a patch for 6.1 which solves alot of the pdf conflicts like importing and exporting. I've been using Quark 6 and pdfs for a few weeks now, and no complaints from printers.

good luck.
