It seems like this could be achieved by conditional styles, you can explore the same or someone here could help with it. Since it will updated the text dynamically you will not have to run the script every-time there's a change in text.

You can also save the Word file as .docx and then import in Quark, it usually works better than .doc for me.

I guess char align feature doesn't have much to do until you have characters of different sizes in the same line of text so it aligns the smaller text with respect to the larger text, try it I'm sure you will get the idea

I would agree, except that this thread seems to be regarding baseline grid, presumably with snap-to-grid switched on. In that case, leading has less to do with spacing than the grid spacing. Spacing is controlled by leading not gird style, Grids just move the text according to leading. Try specifying absolute leading value of 13.2pt for the para below subhead.

Open Preferences > Print layout >Color manager, Under source setup options drop down select "QuarkXPress Emulate Legacy" and see if that helps

Did you try by disabling all XTensions, it happned with me once but I don't remember the name of the XT (maybe table import or something).
