List Profiles?

Are you sure it was really the same image file? 99% certain. It took a lot of head scratching to figure what could possibly be different as the quark files were supplied to us with cms turned off which was our standard workflow at the time. Fortunately this sort of thing is really rare. It is quite ...

List Profiles?

Hello Robert from your reply I guess it is the RIPs interpretation of the postscript. our RIP (supposedly) distinguishes between "RGB graphic", "RGB image", "CMYK graphic", "CMYK image" and "CIE based object" and converts to CMYK. We leave the CMYKs unchanged, and I know the pictures in question are...

List Profiles?

When I send to print I get the same error and in the print dialoge box under profiles I get "Seperation : None" "Composite: Canon CLC500/EFL printer" Set both to None. rather than turn off CMS. I have seen CMYK images still undergo profile to profile conversion with CMS turned off. This happens when...

Creating 2 8.5x11" PDFs from 1 11x17" possible??

Another alternative for you. Create a new quark document with blank 8.5" pages. set them up as spreads. Next copy and paste your 17" page content across onto the 8.5" double page spread. You have to do this a spread at a time. Most printers prefer to get single page documents rather than "printers p...

pdf placed in quark guaranteed to print?

Just to let you know, that I've used the Save as EPS on three previously nightmare jobs, and so far all is OK. :D

Many Thanks

Black screens in pdfs from Quark

"The workaround is to save the modified PDF with help of the 'PDF Optimizer' which can be found in Acrobat 6 Professional. With this function you can 'downgrade' the PDF to version 1.3 or 1.4 (as long as no transparency is in the file)." Hi Robert Is this better than using the "Save As" EPS when wor...

Quark doen't see Distiller

Hi Rafael Good advice from Robert as always. If you leave out the fonts from your PostScript file, you should bear in mind that because distiller5 is a classic application without a suitcase auto activation plug-in, it will need to be restarted, before fonts activated in Suitcase10 (OSXapp) will be ...

pdf placed in quark guaranteed to print?

Hi Robert, Thanks for all your detailed explanations. "if you place a PDF file in QuarkXPress 4 or 5 you're using a lossy technology" Is it any more predictable with Quark 6.5? "must be some kind of sophisticated and configurable color handling built into the RIP....What does it do with.....wrongly ...

pdf placed in quark guaranteed to print?

Thanks rzacherl Creating the eps file from Acrobat sounds like a sensible approach, rather than let quark handle it. Postscript3 and CID fonts are both ok through our RIP, will CID fonts go into the eps OK? Also will RGB and other non CMYK objects need to be converted by Pitstop before saving as eps...

Times Bold Apostophe replaced in PDF

Hi rzacherl

i understand the font isn't in the postscript file, but when you point your distiller at your Times bold you get the correct result. When rdesranleau creates his pdf his distiller is picking up Times bold off his system and producing the wrong characters. i was just brainstorming.
