Opening an InDesign file

Jim, this guy obviously has a problem when he states an opinion that's riddled with poor reasoning and information that doesn't fit the facts - then being called on it. There are "opinions" and there are "facts." There's a clear cause for debate when someone states an opinion as if it's a fact, and ...

Opening an InDesign file

Quark's for people who don't know what they're doing? I don't agree with that type of thinking, but, OK. I don't believe anyone should stay away from InDesign based on such highly flawed advice. Even a beginner can place a graphic file, draw text boxes and set type within a few minutes. Interestingl...

[quote:7b47493ec5]Better off, I personally don't think so, but- read the whole thread before posting! Geez. I did read the whole thread. Geez. Your initial advice was terrible and not informed at all. Most of the leading experts in the industry agree that InDesign is a superior application (i.e. Dav...

Opening an InDesign file

[quote:d66c9e25e6] I would suggest if you are in print to stay away from InDesign Silly piece of advice. I would suggest that anyone who reads that statement ignore it. If you're in print, you're actually better off using InDesign for many reasons. If you know what you're doing and you find shops th...

OTF & that sinking feeling

If you have access to InDesign at all, it exports directly to PDF x1a format. You can download the demo version to try it. If the job pays well enough, maybe you can throw in part of the profit toward getting InDesign (especially if you own PhotoShop and upgrade that at the same time). It's too bad ...

[strong]Sparksrick:[/strong] BASIC usability of Quark still has it over all the bells and whistles you mention. Not really. InDesign not only has the bells and whistles, it has the basic usability you're talking about, plus much more basic usability. I'm not sure you're very familiar with InDesign. ...

[quote:81907a6e37] and the basic tools Quark developed over the years are just way faster. I'm going to burst your bubble here: http://www.pfeifferreport.com/dtalabs.html InDesign is much faster for several reasons. Built-in drop-shadows. Hi-res previews. Import of native PhotoShop and Illustrator f...

J, I read that article when it first came out (and chuckled). I've read several similar articles about Quark over the years. Editorials like that, basically parrot what Quark announces. Because one or two authors get excited over and follow up on Quark's press releases is nothing to get excited abou...

I've seen Quark try to put on a better face many times over the last 10 years. How many times must we hear, "We're going to do better this time! Honest!" before we figure out that it's not going to happen. "We just hired a new VP of customer service." He's gone in 6 months. "We've waited 2 years so ...
