Another vote here for disc warrior.
As far as norton, it seems not to like adobe apps in general. Years ago I had it on a PC and it totally fried the links in pagemaker files - some OLE problem. Symantec has a great web site for tracking threats, but don't use their software.

It will become the next Frameworks. Not for the small agency. Around here, it's all Adobe CS. You need AI and Photoshop anyway, so why not get the whole suite? If it's just you and your workstation, I can see where the font issues would not be as significant. In my case (prepress), I see dozens of files a week, involving hundreds of different fonts. Fonts in quark have been a major problem since OSX. A scan of any prepress discussion group will reflect this.

Maybe see if the font is available in type 1, or convert it to type 1 with fontographer.

Suticase fusion here. Sometimes the only way I can get quark to recognize some fonts is by putting them in the user library.
OTOH, sometimes quark will not recognize a font no matter what I do.

Start by deleting your font cache on the macbook.
