You could try the new colorvision suite that includes a spyder 2 ro screen calibrator and printer profiler.

I would guess that it is the way your friend is outputting the pdf. If she is using a Laser printer then it is cmyk and will produce different colours from your rgb inkjet printers. Acrobat and the printer drivers have many settings which need to be set up right in order to get the correct output.

I would also upgrade to Quark 6.5. There have been several postings about importing pdf's into quark and the safest way overall is to save the file as an eps and use taht.

Quark does have problems sometimes importing PDFs. If you have Acrobat 6 or later, I would save the pdf as an eps and bring that in instead.

In printing to a commercial platesetter we use 1800dpi with a 150lpi. I know that the 1800dpi is the total amount of dots that can be printed in a 1 inch square and that the 150lpi will change the halftone images into 150 horizontal lines in an inch. Can you try to print the file to a printer and see if it prints. If it does then try to create a pdf.
