Page size and margins

Post by G.E.R.R.Y. » 17 May 2016, 19:49

If I create from scratch an epub version of this never-ending book in QXP 2015, is there an optimum page size and margins that I should set on my master page?

Hi Gerry,

I assume that you are creating a fixed-layout ePub, correct?

Hard to say what the ideal layout is. Think of what device your readers will use. If they all use an iPad or if you solely distribute your book through the iBooks store, easy.

If you have Android, iOS, Mac and Windows readers… tough. Maybe then reflow will be the better format if you do not need a lot of interactivity and do not care about layout so much.

Thanks
Matthias

Oooops, I should have mentioned that I was going for a reflow layout. I had decided that rather than going for a fixed layout, we'd simply use a PDF format for some people. So, reflow it is!

Hi Gerry,

then the page dimensions only refer to the cover page, which probably is not important to display. Some eBook Readers even automatically skip it.

Thanks
Matthias

So, should I have set the page size at 6x9in., the same size as my front cover? Or do I not bother setting any page size or margins? I'm attaching the Master Guides window for what I already have. Should I make ANY changes to it?

I also forgot to ask if the default orientation for a new iPad or epub Project is always landscape rather than portrait.
