How do I change the default text box run around type

Post by tgreen » 15 Dec 2010, 14:00

Wow, just got it! I guess I should have just clicked around and tried stuff in the left dialog. I even called Quark tech support and the guy on the phone said this was not possible to do.
This is going to really save my butt tomorrow! I can even set my default gutter width! I'm so relieved right now, hank you! Thank you! Thank you!

One question (because the dialog on the left is not very informative and the Quark user guide doesn't say) what is the difference between the default content and text content. They seem to have the same icons and settings.

How do I change the default text box run around type

There are three boxes you can make from the Tools pallet: Text boxes (T inside a square icon), Picture boxes (square icon with a picture frame) and plain boxes that hold no content (empty square icon). The plain box is called the default content box in the preferences. If you want runaround on rectangular picture boxes, but not oval picture boxes, you can have that, but if you want runaround on every type of box or line you can draw, you have to set the runaround in each tool.

Hi tgreen,
tgreen wrote:You can not change a text box preferences without a document open.

Of course you can change the default of most parameters of the tools:
Close all documents.
Double click the text box tool (or open it via Preferences).
Choose the shape and content type you want to change, e.g. square box with Text Content, and click "Modify".
Navigate to the "Runaround" tab.
Change.
Ok (and best quit QuarkXPress and save the preferences somewhere).

Matthias
Yes, I know this is a very old post, but I'm trying to alter the default textbox runaround type [from none to item] using Quark2020 without success. I can open the Preferences window, but I fail at this instruction...

'Choose the shape and content type you want to change, e.g. square box with Text Content, and click "Modify".'

How do I a) choose the shape & content type b) click on "Modify'
Neither option seems to be available in the Preferences window or anywhere else I can find.

Thanks.
