Quark 6.5 wants to load Futura at startup

Post by Marc Dahmen » 03 Nov 2004, 11:54

I'm using Quark 6.5 and Suitcase 11.0.4 on Mac OS 10.3.5 with AutoActivation turned on.

I have Futura loaded in my Suitcase database.

All Fonts folders on my Mac are empty, except for the System folder, and this one does not have Futura in it.

My problem: every time I launch Quark 6.5, AutoActivation is telling me there is a conflict in my Futura 1 and Futura Condensed folders (which there isn't). I'm preplexed particularly because I don't even know why Suitcase is activating Futura when I launch Quark. No fonts should activate until I open a document.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Your default style 'normal' has Futura? Check it, I'm sure it is here that the problems lay...

Waveghel,

My default style is set to Helvetica. I moved all my Futura fonts into one folder, and this disabled the dublicate font warning from Suitcase. However, Quark 6.5 is definitely loading Futura Condensed when it launches.

Are you sure you don't have any style sheets that use Futura? I just had this problem with New York being buried in a style sheet that was in my Quark Doc

Positive. Both my Normal character and Normal paragraph style sheets are set to 12 point Helvetica.

I have had the same exact problem today. I upgraded to 11.0.4 suitcase and did a restart, which seemed to alleviate it.

Suitcase 11.0.4 is definitely activating Futura and Futura condensed when the Quark 6.5 splash screen loads. Even if I turn Auto Activation off, these fonts will still load when Quark 6.5 launches.

This happens when I just open Quark by clicking on the dock or the application icon.

Maybe an extention conflict? I don't have Quark 6 to try, but try dissabling one at a time. At least new ones you recognize anyways.

From Suitcase:

There was a conflict when attempting to activate the font Futura in the suitcase FuturaMT for this document. Please close the document and resolve the conflict in the Suitcase application.

Dee,

You were correct. The Badia Vistas extensions, for some reason, was loading Futura when I launched Quark. That's very odd since I used that extension on Quark 6.0 and 6.1 without any peculiar font behavior.

Oh well, problem solved.
