ERROR File not found (-43) during collect

Post by Mboehm » 17 Jun 2004, 15:46

I am attempting to collect a 350pg book and the largest chapter (seperate document) is giving me this error while collecting for output:
File not found (-43)
Quark (6.1 on Panther), then immediately stops collecting...I have checked the usage and even the specific file name in the window when the error occurs, and I cannot figure out why I can't get a clean collect...The files are all present on my G5. This book needs to go to the printer in several days and I NEED to figure this thing out. Any light on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

ERROR File not found (-43) during collect

Where do you get the message, exactly? Before it collects? While it's collecting a certain image or font?

Check whether that image properly linked with quark or not ...may be it has missing link. Additionally, down save your document in QuarkXPress 5 then open in QuarkXPress 6 and then reproduce..

Good luck for this troubleshooting!!!

Yes, by all means, check the image itself. Look for a bad color format or any other sort of anomaly in Photoshop ...

You could

1. remove image
2. collect
3. manually move image to proper collect folder
4. open collected quark doc
5. place image manually

You could

1. remove image
2. collect

Rather than removing the image, when you do a collect for O/P, uncheck 'Linked pictures' and that will do the trick for you..

I am on the same set up and getting the same problem. My images are fine. I have a mix of photoshop tiff and illustrator eps files missing. Out of a 72 page catalog I had two bad collect for output folders. The only hint of an error is the -43 message.

ERROR File not found (-43) during collect

Graham,
SO I never really solved the collect -43 error...I ended up
just collecting only the images seperate of the document
then including the document for the printer once the pictures
and fonts were collected. Believe me, I tried everything to
get the document, images and fonts to collect to one file
but just couldn't get it to work. I checked the specific images
that were shown in the collect window when it would quit
and even tried deleting the specific page from the document
that it would quit at and it continued to do the same thing.
The only thing that I question is that the two documents
that were giving me problems were orginally designed by
another designer in my studio running 10 and working in
Quark 5. Let me know what you find out. Good Luck!

ERROR File not found (-43) during collect

Post by Marc Dahmen » 07 Jul 2004, 10:30

Mboehm,

Are you on a Mac? I'm on a Mac running OS 10.3.4, and I've had this error occur on me when I have a filename of a piece of artwork that's longer than 31 characters. Check the filenames of all your linked art. If you find one that's over 31 characters long, change it and then re-collect.
