CMYK colours changing in QXP 10

Post by Xpressnorth » 26 Mar 2014, 03:24

You tell me what's wrong with QuarkXpress 10.

1. Create an Illustrator file > draw a 10% Cyan box fill.
2. Import the image into QuarkXpress 10
3. Export as CMYK PDF check the colour in Acrobat the Cyan is now C 8% M 2% Y 2% K 0%

Same thing in QuarkXpress 9 perfect.

This is just not good enough!

CMYK colours changing in QXP 10

Can anyone test this for me?

Can you create a 100% black in illustrator then pass it though Quark 10 to a CMYK PDF. Does is still retain the colour as 100% black?

For me it's changing 100% blacks to C 73 M 72 M 69 K 55

It's a deal breaker is this WTF!

In the color section of the PDF output, change the output to As Is. The color will be correct.

But then any RGB bitmapped images in the document won't be converted to CMYK upon export as PDF

Using "As Is" is no good to produce PDF/X standards

This is was already functioning in Q7, Q8 Q9.

Select none as color option for PDF export. The results are as expected.

"as is" is a complete non-starter in a CMYK work-flow. The whole point of "professional" page makeup software to gather up many file types on the page and output consistently in a "press ready" PDF. "as is" leaves other RGB imported images as RGB.

"As Is" is only a non-starter for a pure start to end CMYK work flow. The As Is setting is roughly the equivalent to using a PDF/X-4 work flow. The RIP will generally do a better RGB-->CMYK conversion for the actual press being used than I can in PhotoShop. All but one of my print vendors desire a PDF/X-4 work flow. For the odd ducks that insist on a PDF/X-1a work flow, I convert them in Acrobat.

I do agree with you, though. A PDF/X-1a work flow (or other RGB-CMYK conversion work flow that happens during PDF creation) is broken in Q10.1.0

At least it's not just me then.

I've been waiting since the upgrade last September to still find out basic functions are still not working.
